I promised some news, so here you are, although there's not much to write about.
The strip was a bit late, we had to do some last minute tweaking, rearranging the text bubbles and so.
Now I'd like to mention all the references we've made in this strip. It's not just that many people won't get them. I'd hate to be accused of stealing other people's ideas. I'm not good with these legal issues, hopefully providing sources here will be enough. Or maybe I don't have to do it at all...
'Have you tried turning it off and on again?' is from a brilliant british TV show IT Crowd. The characters woud pick up the phone and say 'Hello, IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again?'
In the bottom-left frame, Vicious (his name is Vincent but he nicknamed himself Vicious, cause he thinks he's all kewl like Vicious from Cowboy Bebop ^_^) is holding a Death Note. Death Note is a Japanese manga, which was made into Anime (now airing) and two liveaction movies. I strongly recommend it, it's highly addictive and never fails to surprise.
Incidentally, in case you didn't know, there really is an error message in Windows Vista that says 'The operation completed succsessfully.' Just google images for 'vista error' or something similar.
Coolman's been complaining about lack of action in the comic so far, which makes the comic rather boring. I have to admit he's right, so I'm rethinking the few following strips. The result should be something actually happening in the comic. Coolman's right, there have been enough 'introduction shots', it's time for some storyline to emerge, even if it has to be done forcefully.
This comic was a bit of an experiment from the start, so we'll se where it leads.

bad grammar
We've just fixed some embarrassing typos in the last strip. The fault is both mine and Coolman's. His for not copying my texts exactly, mine for not checking after him. The strip should now be OK, to my knowledge of English.
Speaking of grammar, I have a favor to ask. As you can tell, (if by nothing else then by the .sk in our webcomic's address) none of us is a native english speaker. While I'm quite confident about my english, it's been a while since I've left school (highschool that is) and it seems I'm slowly forgetting things like spelling and such. Being a bit of a perfectionist (a lazy perfectionist, what a combination ^_^) I never miss a chance to get my grammar checked.
While other people hate being criticised for their grammar, I love it! I can never achieve perfection, but with people pointing out my mistakes and correcting me, I can get as close to it as possible. So this is a call to all those who like good grammar. Never hesitate to correct me, or to start discussion, even if you are not entirely sure. Same goes for styling as well.
Now this applyes to the comic itself, the Standard News website, including all the news, and this blog. I don't do grammar checks for Coolman's blog (though he could use some) That's his own business. I don't know if he'd appreciate your help with grammar. It's really up to him.
Now for tomorrow's update. I've sent the ... sketch? of the next strip to Coolman (I do kind of a stick drawing scheme of each strip and send it to him) on Friday afternoon, so by now it should be well in production. I've been out of touch for most of the weekend, so I haven't heard from Coolman since Friday or Thursday. I remember he's sitting an exam tomorrow, hopefully it won't prevent him from finishing the strip. I'll find out what's going on when he gets online. He may blog about the update status later this evening, so check out his blog if you're interested.

back on schedule, sort of
In case anyone's reading this, there will be an update today. The strip was finished early this morning (probably about 1:00AM CET (GMT+1)) only the guy didn't send it to me. Now I'm waiting for him to get home from school, or to get online at school. There is some chance I'll be out of touch by the time he comes around, which would mean even more delays. But hey, we promised to post on Monday, and it's still Monday :)
and it's not like there are actually people waiting for the update...

wuss
Here I am, yours truly Acheron, co-author of The Standard Nerds webcomic
just found out that Coolman has a blog here, so I just couldn't stay behind...
Right now I'm considering using this blog for all the comic related news, instead of our little news corner on our little website (being it my fault it sux the way it does)
The comic is in an undesirable state, as we have only made three strips so far and we already had to go two straight weeks without update due to lack of time.
We suck, and we know it. But the first ever rant of Megatokyo states, "MegaTokyo promises to suck in new and exciting ways." And look at them now...
We do not hide the fact that Megatokyo is one of our biggest sources of inspiration, among others like Inverloch and Catena. (Incidentally, one of our aims is to be disticnt enoguh from Megatokyo, so that Mr. Ghallagher wouldn't feel the urge to sue us :)))
Ok so that's it for starters, I'm gonna look up the word 'wuss' in the online dictionary, to find out what on Earth have I titled my first post here. More to come, whether you like it or not :)
